THE family of a Woodstock man, who died after being restrained by police, said they need to know more about his death.

Duncan Tomlin, 32, died in July after being placed in a police van in Haywards Heath, Sussex.

He became unwell and was given CPR before being taken to hospital where he died a few days later.

Yesterday the Independent Police Complaints Commision (IPCC) said it had served five Sussex Police officers with gross misconduct notices as part of the investigation.

The notices served on officers do not carry an assumption of guilt, but inform them they are under formal investigation and its level of severity.

Yesterday the IPCC said it was examining the actions of officers, including the restraint used on Mr Tomlin, who was living in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, at the time.

In a statement, his father Paul said he hoped the notices served to officers reflected the “gravity of the situation”.

He said: “The family are devastated by Duncan’s death.

“We need to know how this came about.”
