A man has been arrested following a suspected hit-and-run involving a cyclist at the Eynsham roundabout.

The A40 has been closed in both directions at the roundabout but it is now open again in both directions.

Traffic is moving very slowly through Eynsham and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said: “We were called at 11.02am to a collision at the Eynsham Roundabout.

“The road is completely closed and may be closed for a few hours.

“It is a collision between a cyclist and a car and it is a fail-to-stop collision so we are trying to locate the vehicle.

“The cyclist, who is believed to be elderly, has been taken to the John Radcliffe.”

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.57am to reports of a road traffic collision between a van and a pushbike on the A40.

“We sent two ambulance crews, a basics doctor and a rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance was also despatched.

“They were on scene treating a male believed to be in his 70s for a major head injury. He has been conveyed to the John Radcliffe Hospital.”

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in police custody.

Stagecoach said all Witney services are diverting through Eynsham. The services affected are S1, S2, S7, 11 & 18.
