OXFORD MAIL CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

CALLUM Bampton and Megan Humphreys completed an impressive double for Oxford City in the top junior races at Ascott-under-Wychwood.

Bampton won the combined under 15/17 boys’ event by 39 seconds, while Humphreys finished 22 seconds clear in the equivalent girls’ contest.

After battling with runner-up Ben Claridge (White Horse Harriers) in the early stages of the 4.8km course, Bampton pullled clear to take victory in a time of 17mins 28secs.

Alfie Armitage-Hooke (St Edward’s School) was the leading under 15 boy, finishing third in 18.18.

Humphreys saw off the challenge of Fiona Bunn (Abingdon) to complete the 3.5km course in 13.03.

Banbury Harriers’ Emily Thompson (13.35) was the first under 15 home in fourth place.

Alex Scrivener continued City’s run of success in the 2km under 13 girls’ race, taking victory in 7.35, with Team Kennet’s Mai Brown (7.58) second and Bicester’s Amy Gould (7.59) third.

Kennet’s Sam Clarke (7.25) pipped Banbury’s Skip Snelson (7.26) and Swindon Harriers’ Ben McIntyre (7.28) in the under boys’ event.

Radley achieved a one-two-three in the under 11 boys’ race over 1.2km.

Benjamin Cumberland (3.42) triumphed ahead of Rowan Miell-Ingram (3.47) and William D’Arcy (3.48).

Maisie Jeger (Newbury) won the under 11 girls’ race in 3.54, ahead of clubmate Luci Robertson (3.56) and Bicester’s Millie Couzens (3.58).

Abingdon’s Luke Burgess won the boys’ and girls’ under nine event, with Banbury pair Ethan Aldous and Ruben Snelson second and third.
