CHILDREN will shed a little light on a special winter.

Families in Carterton have been preparing for the fifth Winter Lights Procession by making decorative paper lanterns.

The procession will take place next Friday, leaving Carterton Community College at 5.15pm.

Ten-year-old Molly Langley, who was making an angel, said: “It was really fun and I can’t wait to do it again.”

Molly’s mother Kelly said the family, from Carterton, were inspired to join in after seeing the spectacular parade last year.

“I think it’s something really nice for the community and it’s really amazing seeing the lanterns.”

West Oxfordshire district councillor Richard Langridge said last year about 200 people took part in the workshops at Carterton Community Centre.

He added: “We’re delighted to invite residents of all ages to join in the celebrations again.”

The Winter Lights Procession is part of the Christmas Lights street fair, which includes live entertainment, charity stalls, stilt walkers and hot food.

Residents of all ages can make their own lanterns at another session on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
