DEMENTIA sufferer Nick Stanton couldn’t help falling in love with the music of Elvis when he first heard his songs.

So he was overwhelmed when King of Rock ‘n’ Roll impersonator Miguel Olivarez-Alvarez dropped in at his care home in Milestone Road, Carterton, the day before his 52nd birthday.

Staff at the NHS Southern Health Foundation Trust home arranged for the singer to perform a few of Mr Stanton’s favourites on Tuesday.

Mr Olivarez-Alvarez said: “To make someone’s wish come true is the most wonderful thing one human can do for another.”

Mr Stanton has Down’s Syndrome and late-stage dementia and as it is feared he won’t see his next birthday, his loved ones wanted to make this one extra-special. Twin sister Janie Jackson and younger brother Gary Stanton, 49, were there to see their brother’s treat.

Gary, from Faringdon, said: “Nick has always loved Elvis — his favourite songs are Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock and Wooden Heart and Miguel sang them for him. The staff at the home came up with the idea.

“We want to thank staff at the home for what they do for people like Nick who suffer from dementia and learning disabilities.

“Miguel was there for a couple of hours and joined in the celebrations before visiting other residents.”
