ACTOR Robert Hardy lent his theatrical talents to a Woodstock church service in memory of the 1914 Christmas truce yesterday.

The veteran performer joined the Duke of Marlborough to give readings as part of a service at St Mary Magdalene Church that also included carols and songs from the First World War.

Mr Hardy told the Oxford Mail he enjoyed the service and added: “I think the readings were right and proper for this particular service.”

It was held in support of the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum and the Royal British Legion.
