Little wise men, shepherds, innkeepers and – of course – miniature Mary and Josephs graced the stages of schools across the county this week. As Nativity play season continued, schools in West Oxfordshire, Kidlington and Wheatley delighted audiences with this year’s efforts.

Ducklington Primary School staged a traditional Nativity in the atmospheric setting of its Forest School on Wednesday.

Hot chocolates and mince pies were ready to warm the audience up after the outdoor performance at the school in Aston Road.

The show involved 25 Foundation Stage children and was organised by Forest School leader Jo Mortimer and Foundation stage teacher Kate Rippin Mrs Rippin said: “It's nice having the performance outside – it's very atmospheric.

“The children have really enjoyed learning all the songs and speaking parts and they looked beautiful in their costumes."

And at Wheatley Primary School, about 100 five- and six-year-olds wowed their audience with a performance of The Way to Bethlehem.

They sang and acted the musical version of the classic Nativity play.

Key Stage One co-ordinator Ren Thurston said: “They have been so excited and a pleasure to work with and watch.”
