PAVING laid on the north side of Frideswide Square has started to show the outline of what the revamped site will look like.
The junction outside Oxford Station, previously light-controlled, is being overhauled to feature a roundabout connected by a boulevard to two mini-roundabouts.
Oxfordshire County Council expects to finish the £5.8m scheme by December this year.
Workers are currently carrying out the first phase, digging up the old road and traffic island and laying down new paving on the north side of the square.
They expect to start phases two and three in July, when work will move to the south side of the square.
Phase one will continue simultaneously into August.
The county council said access to businesses will be maintained “at all times”.
It is hoped that the new layout for the busy junction will allow traffic to flow more freely in and out of the western side of the city, easing congestion on Botley Road.
