FUN-LOVING free spirits managed to avoid most of the bad weather and catch at least some sun at Charlbury Riverside Festival at the weekend.

The free community event entertained a colourful crowd from noon on Saturday and wrapped up at 8pm on Sunday.

Festival-goers enjoyed bright skies on Saturday and braved the rain yesterday to dance to the sound of bands from across the county.

Little ones were kept busy with a host of activities in the children’s area, including arts and crafts and story-telling sessions.

There was an eclectic mix of music, and crowds danced throughout the weekend. Organiser Andy Packard, who spent the past three months planning the event, said it was a huge success. “This year’s festival has been exceptional, it’s been one of the best. We had about 5,000 people through the door on Saturday. Everyone has had a good time despite the rain.

“It’s all for the community. I think Charlbury can be proud of the festival, it’s a permanent fixture on its calendar. Even though it was pouring down with rain sometimes, I have to say we had a Blitz Spirit. It's very hard work and lots of my friends and volunteers have done it. It's been great."
