MAYOR of Thame Nichola Dixon will be falling thousands of feet through the air today as she takes on a parachute jump for charity.

Weather permitting, Ms Dixon will be jumping with the London Parachute School from Chiltern Park Aerodrome and has so far raised around £800. She hopes to reach £1,500 by the end of her challenge.

The money will be split between her two charities, the Thame and District day centre and Thame to Thame, a fundraising project to rebuild a school in Nepal.

Ms Dixon became mayor on May 19 and was given the chance to choose her charities for the year.

She said: “I had made a comment prior to standing for mayor that if I ever got in I would throw myself out of a plane.

“I’ve never had a fear of heights until perhaps now. I’m keeping a close eye on the weather and now and then I keep looking up at the sky, thinking ‘three miles is high’.

“I’m a bit apprehensive but I’m looking forward to it.”

Ms Dixon will not end her fundraising plans after the sky dive and is toying with the idea of doing a firewalk later this year to raise more money.
