Another spate of heavy rain is set to hit the county tonight as a severe weather warning is put in place for Oxfordshire, and two flood alerts in Oxford.

The Met Office has warned people to expect outbreaks of showers and thunder, which will continue until late this evening.

Rainfall of up to 10-20mm could be expected to land in three to four hours, while some places could see 30-50mm over the day.

Forecasters added that this could lead to some surface water flooding and disruption to transport.

A flood alert issued for the River Thames in Oxford, in place from 3am this morning, reads: "The River Thames and its tributaries remain high in response to recent rainfall and water may flow out into some low lying areas.

"No property flooding is expected. The weather forecast is for heavy showers throughout Saturday and a drier day on Sunday."

A second alert has also been issued for the River Cherwell remains at Thrupp and Heyford Bridge. Again, no property flooding is expected.

Oxford City are among the teams affected, with their game against Concord Rangers in the Vanarama National League South postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Kidlington FC have also been forced to postpone their FA Vase fourth round tie against Knaphill FC.
