HE MAY be made of metal, but it seems Ironman has a warm heart after all.

When cystic-fibrosis sufferer Daniel Keyte was being picked on for his condition, his mum Vicky found the perfect way to make his dreams come true.

After a social media post to actor Robert Downey Jr – who plays the metallic superhero in the Avengers series – went viral, the seven-year-old was invited to mix with Hollywood legends on a Los Angeles red carpet in April.

Last year the seven-year-old was told by doctors he needed to have a metal port inserted into his chest to help direct antibiotics into his bloodstream.

But after facing taunts from children, Vicky turned to the only person she knew who had metal parts – Ironman himself.

She sent Downey Jr a message on social networking site Instagram hoping the actor could cheer Daniel up.

Hours later the post had been seen by thousands of people, with the 50-year-old replying a week later asking Daniel to join him on the red carpet for the premiere of Captain America: Civil War.

Daniel, a pupil at Madley Brook Primary School in Witney, will have the chance to mix with other stars of the Avengers sequel, including Hollywood legends Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson.

Mrs Keyte, from Madley Park in Witney, said: “When I told Daniel the news he went absolutely nuts. He even asked to go for a suit fitting so he won’t look out of place on the red carpet. He’s been so excited about it – he asks me about it every single day.

“Daniel has been picked on for a few years and has had to spend a lot of time in hospital, so he had been feeling very depressed.

“I put out the message online but I never expected it to be as big as it was. I thought I might just get a message back but definitely not this.”

According to his mother Daniel has been a fan of Ironman for most of his life, and is often found watching the Avengers and Ironman film series.

For years the metal character has also been his favourite costume for going out for Halloween.

Mrs Keyte, 27, added: “Thinking about Ironman has been what has helped him deal with the bullies. He was the only person he could really relate to.

“It meant it was easier for him to understand what he was going through.”

Daniel said: “I’ve liked Ironman for about five years and I’ve watched all the films.

“When my mum told me I was so happy that we can go [to the premiere].”

Madley Brook CP School headmistress Katherine Spencer said everyone at the school was overjoyed at the news.

She added: “Daniel is a delightful boy and is a happy and popular member of our school community.

“He is able to deal with his condition in a very mature and responsible way.

“Despite having to have time off school because of illness or treatment Daniel always returns with a positive attitude and eagerness for learning. We are very proud of him.”

The family are now waiting to hear back from the actor’s social media team, who will give them more information about the premiere.
