STORM Imogen may have calmed but water levels remain high across the county today.

Oatlands Road recreation ground in West Oxford was underwater this morning and flooding is expected in a number of other areas.

Flood warnings are still in place for Wolvercote and areas of West Oxfordshire as levels continued to rise overnight.

Osney Lock recorded a water level of 3.24m this morning - anything above 3.14m means flooding is possible.

While Bulstake Stream sat at 2.40m - almost 0.5m above the 'flooding possible' mark.

Yesterday Storm Imogen left a trail of devastation in its wake as the county was battered by 30mph winds and lashings of rain.

Delays to public transport, fallen trees and flood warnings were features of a day which saw Oxfordshire take cover along with much of the country.

Early risers endured the first bout of heavy rain, which pounded the pavements until 7am.

The calm before the storm set in for a couple of hours afterwards, before Imogen made a feisty return just before 9am.

Oxfordshire was among several southern counties which bore the brunt of the storm, with a yellow weather warning for wind issued by the Met Office.

The county council revealed it had cleared 23 fallen trees overnight and 11 more throughout the day.

River levels rose through the afternoon as unrelenting rainfall hit the county.

Homes in Wolvercote and parts of West Oxfordshire including Bampton are expected to be hit by flooding this morning as the Environment Agency issued flood warnings for the River Thames.

The update read: "The River Thames in the Wolvercote area has been rising steadily throughout the day in response to recent rainfall.
"Levels will continue to rise and property flooding is possible from Tuesday morning onwards in the areas closest to the river. "The current river forecast suggests that by the morning the river in this area could reach properties closest to the river."

Commuters also felt the full force of Storm Imogen as services from Didcot Parkway to Swansea, Cardiff Central and London Paddington were cancelled from 4pm onwards.

Several roads were also closed for much of the day including, Old Wharf Road in Longcot, Chipping Norton Road in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Denchworth Road in West Hanney and Park Road in Stanford in the Vale.
