A decidedly chilly May Day bank holiday is on the cards, with those setting off after work today across the UK warned to expect hail, sleet and even snow.
The long weekend is expected to be bookended by blustery, wet and chilly weather in all parts of the country, with a risk of gales on Sunday.
In Oxford the weather is set to stay mainly cloudy, with patchy sun and a spattering of rain in the evenings on both Saturday and Sunday, with highs of 11 °.
There is, however, a glimmer of hope for the hundreds planning to venture into the city centre for May Morning on Sunday as there should be a short burst of full sun from about 7am.
A wet and windy Bank Holiday Monday will clear towards the end of the day, with both sunshine and showers following for Tuesday.
Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: "The remnants of system that is bringing snow across southern Scotland and England will be lingering into Friday evening, predominantly in the North East of England.
"Mostly it will be rain showers and a wintry mix of snow, sleet and hail for the rest of the country."
