A BEER made from spring water collected at Blenheim Palace is being launched just in time for Father's Day.

"Finest Brew" has been created by Hook Norton Brewery using 2,000 litres of fresh water collected from aquifers underneath the Woodstock palace.

To celebrate its arrival, the brewery – which is celebrating its 167th anniversary this year – arranged for it to be delivered to the palace in a traditional horse-drawn dray.

The new beer gets its name from a quote attributed to Lord Randolph Churchill in 1874 by his wife: "As we passed through the entrance archway and the lovely scenery burst upon me, Randolph said with pardonable pride, ‘this is the finest view in England."

Trevor Rawden, head of Blenheim Palace Natural Mineral Water, said: "We have been bottling our still and sparkling mineral water for many years now but this is the first time we have used it to create our own beer.

"It has been a fascinating process to be involved with and we are delighted with the finished product. We are anticipating it will also go down extremely well with our visitors."

The drink has been described as having "an auburn appearance with malty notes and a and a grassy, floral summer flavour all lifted by a tropical citrus finish".

The beer will be available in the Blenheim Palace East Courtyard shop and Orangery restaurant from Father's Day.
