DAVID Cameron's successor as Witney MP has been sworn in to Parliament.

Robert Courts replaced the former prime minister in the safe Conservative seat after being elected last week.

Mr Cameron quit as an MP in September, three months after standing down as Prime Minister following the EU referendum.

Barrister Mr Courts was flanked by fellow Oxfordshire Tory MPs John Howell and Victoria Prentis, who represent Henley and Banbury respectively, as he approached the despatch box to be sworn in.

He came after former Coronation Street actress Tracy Brabin, who was also sworn in as the new Labour MP for Batley and Spen. She replaced Jo Cox after her death in June.

Both of the new Commons arrivals received cheers from their respective benches as they approached the despatch box, as Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn looked on.

Mr Courts gave a nod to the Prime Minister after he had been sworn in.
