A MAN is understood to have been pulled from the Thames in Abingdon this afternoon after jumping in.

Crews from South Central Ambulance Service were called to the riverbank, off Caldecott Road, at 2.41pm.

Spokeswoman Michelle Archer said: "We were called to reports of a male who was in the river.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and a responder and were assessing and treating one male who was in a stable condition and taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital."

Thames Valley Police was called at 2.39pm today to reports that a man was in the river near Wharf Close.

Inspector James Turner said: "A male jumped into the river unprompted by any emergency services.

"He was taken out of the river suffering from hypothermia. That is now in hand with him receiving the relevant first aid."

He added that the man 'felt suicidal' and no criminal investigation is currently taking place.
