CAMPAIGNERS took to the streets in Tory heartland this morning to protest the 'disastrous' Conservative spring budget.

Members and supporters of the Labour Party set up stall in the centre of Chipping Norton from 9am to 12.30pm.

Labour district councillor Geoff Saul said: "The Government are in chaos.

"After their screeching U-turn over their NIC proposals, which attacked the living standards of the self-employed, the whole Budget is starting to unravel.

"Pasty gate has got nothing on this shambles."

He added: "There was nothing in the Budget for first time buyers or first time movers, young people are struggling to get on or move up the housing ladder due to affordability and the need to save for large deposits. More affordable homes are needed.

"That's why I am campaigning for homes in Chipping Norton to be built on Oxfordshire County Council owned land specifically for local young people and key workers."
