MEMBERS of the Oxfordshire Green Party ripped into proposals for a unitary authority in a symbolic protest outside County Hall yesterday.
Leader David Williams tore up the ‘One Oxfordshire’ document produced by Oxfordshire County Council to support its plans while other party members looked on, brandishing the shears.
At a meeting of full council this morning the Greens will table a motion calling for the proposal to be put on ice and all spending on its promotion to cease.
Mr Williams said plans to bring all of the county’s services under one roof were ‘profoundly undemocratic’, adding: “In view of the continuing opposition to the idea, district councils and the County Council must find at alternative forms of unitary council arrangements in Oxfordshire which are consensual.”
The meeting will take place at 10am today.
