POLICE and ambulance crews were called to Didcot this morning after a body was found by a member of the public.

Residents reported seeing emergency services in Wantage Road at about 8am.

Thames Valley Police spokesman James Williams said: "We were called to land off Slade Road at 7.40am after reports that a body had been found by a member of the public.

"Sadly, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The death is not suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Didcot Town Councillor Jackie Billington said: "I was driving up Wantage Road at about 8am this morning as it joins Slade Road.

"All I saw was an ambulance with its lights flashing and three police cars parked on the side of the road.

"A friend lives nearby in Churchill Road and she has confirmed to me that an alleyway opposite Churchill Road was cordoned off."

A wooded area opposite the junction with Slade Road was still cordoned off at 12.30pm today with police officers still present.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "We were called to an incident on Wantage Road, Didcot, this morning (between Didcot Road and Slade Road).

"We were called at 7.44am and sent an ambulance, an paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and a Silver Officer."

"However, due to the nature of the incident we are unable to release any information."

A Silver Officer is a senior paramedic manager called to serious incidents in the area, which might be one that uses a lot of staff and vehicles at the same time, or a situation or scene that is particularly challenging and difficult for staff attending.
