IT MAY be in another county, but Witney residents caught a nice glimpse of the biggest airshow in the world.

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), which sees some of the world’s most talented fighter pilots descend on RAF Fairford each year, returned over the weekend for another successful event.

Despite being in neighbouring Gloucestershire, Witney residents were delighted to see some -eye-grabbing planes soaring through the skies over the town throughout the weekend.

Amateur photographers captured an F-15 Eagle fighter jet, and a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber (both pictured) among others making their way to and from the show.

This year’s three-day event marked the 70th anniversary of the United States Air Force, and the show was sprinkled with a distinct transatlantic flavour.

It also featured the Red Arrows as they performed a startling range of air acrobatics alongside other displays from air forces across the world.

The air tattoo, which is by far the biggest air show in the world, allows flying enthusiasts the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most advanced and impressive flying machines.

It is staged in support of the RAF Charitable Trust, which assists the force and encourages young people to get involved.
