A YOUNG racing driver and engineer from West Oxfordshire will lead a team of mechanics restoring a classic 1984 Ford Capri in just three days.

Fergus Walkinshaw, of Chipping Norton, will work with five experts from Friday, July 28 to Sunday, July 30 in front of a live audience at the Silverstone Classic festival.

They will race against the clock to bring the 2.8 Injection Capri back to life for the eBay Restoration Live event and, if all goes well, show off the results on the Sunday.

Mr Walkinshaw, 26, founder of fledgling team FW Motorsport and son of late industry icon Tom Walkinshaw, last year oversaw the restoration of a first-generation Range Rover at breakneck speed at the same event.

He said: "Restoring the Range Rover in just three days was a tremendous achievement last year, of which we’re extremely proud.

"We know what to expect and to bring even more specialist knowledge to the 2017 Capri project.

"Preparation is key, so we’re going to be busy sourcing all of the parts and accessories we’ll need in the run up to Silverstone Classic. It’s going to be a great experience and we can’t wait to get started.”

More than 100 car clubs are set to attend the Silverstone Classic festival, with 10,000 cars on display as well as driving activities and demonstrations.
