MUSICIANS and members of the Oxford music scene will gather tomorrow to pay their respects to the photographer Pier Corona, who died last week.

Mr Corona was an enthusiastic supporter of Oxfordshire bands and was a familiar figure at shows and local festivals.

Born on the Italian island of Sardinia, Mr Corona lived in Long Hanborough, near Witney. He died, aged 61, after a battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held for Mr Corona at North Leigh Memorial Hall at 11am tomorrow followed by a woodland burial at Windrush Cemetery in Witney at noon. A crowdfunding appeal set up to raise £4,000 to pay for the funeral has almost reached its target.

Friend and musician Tom McKibbin, of the band Undersmile, urged people who knew Mr Corona to donate, saying: “In this difficult time, we are asking for donations to help cover the funeral costs so that we can give Pier the funeral he deserves.”

Musicians have been paying tribute to the talented photographer by sharing his pictures online – some of them are displayed here, with kind permission of his family.

His daughter Chloe Corona, 36, who lives in Wales, said: "My dad always loved music, especially new bands, and will be remembered by the photographs he took and by his generosity. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and everybody loved him."
