AN innovative solution to Oxfordshire’s homelessness crisis will go on display in Witney this weekend.

Witney-based Homes4All is seeking support for its Jumpstart Bus, a double-decker bus which would serve as a bridge between sleeping on the streets and more permanent solutions.

On Sunday, a bus belonging to the Ark Project – a similar homelessness support group in Reading – will be available to view in Market Square, Witney, between 11.30am and 6pm.

It is hoped that showing the community the Ark Project’s bus will give people an idea of how it may operate in Oxfordshire.

The group wants people to get behind the project either financially or by offering their time and skills.

Deborah Robson-Grey, of Homes4All, said: “We are looking for volunteers, people who have skills around addiction, abuses, or would be willing to learn new skills.

“It’s a really big community event and really shows the goodwill to all, apt for what many believe Christmas is about.”

The Jumpstart Bus will be a double-decker bus converted into a mobile resource centre to be used during the day as a safe place people can come to and get help for bullying, domestic abuse, depression, debt, substance addiction and housing issues.

It has 10 beds upstairs and acts as a place for the homeless to sleep and get the help they need.

The clients Homes4All expect to help with its bus will be rough sleepers, ranging from people who have just fallen into homelessness to ‘old hands’.
