PEOPLE across Oxfordshire who want to find out more about the rich and varied world of volunteering are invited to a special event.

A volunteer recruitment day will be held in the Corn Exchange, Witney, between 10am and 2pm on Thursday, February 8.

Organised by Volunteer Link-Up, the event will provide visitors with all the information they need to help them select which organisation they would like to offer their time and skills.

Witney mayor Chris Woodward said: “The Volunteer Link -Up is a wonderful initiative that enables folks to take part in activities that could potentially lead on to a different and exciting future.

“You never know how wide your skill set is until you work with an enthusiastic and brilliant volunteer team to tackle all manner of tasks.

“If you’ve never considered volunteering, realised it’s piquing an interest and want to find out more, please, please do get in touch with Ruth Lapworth [of Volunteer Link-Up]. I can’t recommend the group enough.”

Organisations are invited to bring a stand to the event to show what they do, highlight the work they take part in and the kind of opportunities they can offer volunteers.

The recruitment day is also an opportunity for enthusiastic individuals interested in volunteering in Witney and the surrounding area to find out how they could give their time to help improve local services.

Patricia Chirgwin, manager of Volunteer Link-Up said: “We all know what a great place West Oxfordshire is to live in, and people are always ready to help in the case of an emergency, but lots of organisations need help to operate and individuals need a small amount of support to continue to live independently.

“People quite often don’t realise that their help is needed and this event will highlight a variety of organisations wanting to promote their work and their need for residents to volunteer.”

Refreshments will be provided by The Ice Centre, which is fundraising ahead of taking on the operation of Langdale Hall.

If you represent an organisation and would like a stand please contact Mrs Lapworth on 01993 776277 or email office@vlu.org.uk
