NEW mayor of Witney Brenda Churchill was delighted to show off her new chains to her 100-year-old father.

Mrs Churchill was voted into the role at a meeting earlier this month after quarter of a century in local politics.

She was delighted to share the news with her dad, Thomas Davies, who turned 100 in January.

Though her dad, who lives in Cheltenham, is blind, he was able to feel his daughter’s new mayoral chains.

She said: “There can’t be many mayors who have dads alive at 100.”

Mrs Churchill said her dad’s next goal is living to the age of 105 so that he receives another letter from the Queen.

She took the role as the ceremonial head of Witney Town Council following stints representing Witney on Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council.

Mrs Churchill, who has been on the town council for 15 years, became emotional when she was handed the chains earlier this month and thanked her family for their support.
