CHIPPING Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon was delighted to receive the Princess Royal’s approval as Bestwork claimed top honours in the historic Arctic Spas Worcester Grand Annual Handicap Chase at the Midlands track.

The event was graced by Princess Anne, who handed out the prizes to the winning connections after seeing Bestwork defy odds of 22-1 by making light work of the step up in trip to two miles and seven furlongs.

Longsdon said: “I was unaware what a big occasion it was. It was very nice to receive the prize from the Princess Royal. She’s a massive supporter of racing.

“It’s good for racing when people like her take an active interest.”

Although Bestwork was an outsider, Longsdon added: “It wasn’t totally unexpected, but it was our first try at the trip.

“Because of the nature of his running, I was slightly concerned he might not get three miles, but actually he’s been flat-out over two and a half and the better grade of race found him out.

“Over three, he could go a bit slower and it suited him.

"He got every inch of it.

"This horse was winning low-grade races a year ago, now he’s winning a Class 3. I’m delighted with him. His jumping has always been his forte.”
