THE owner of the popular Bear & The Bean cafe has now opened a business in Cowley Road as a pop-up venture.

Manager Jordan O’Shea closed the cafe in May after running it for three years and said high rents were a factor in his decision to close.

Now his customers will be able to wake up and smell the coffee further along the Cowley Road, after the Cowleyfornia Coffee Club opened at The Library pub, which has served customers since 2011.

Mr O’Shea said: “The wonderful guys at The Library Pub on Cowley Road saw our premises predicament and so together we have now opened a new pop-up coffee shop under the pub.

“We have rebranded as Cowleyfornia Coffee Club to reflect the great community we’re a part of.

“The coffee club is a partnership of me and Alex West, manager of The Bear & The Bean. with help from Henry and Tom from The Library.

“It’s an amazing reaction, that in spite of raising rents in Oxford, two loved independent companies have joined together.”

When The Bear & The Bean cafe closed in May, staff staged a farewell party and invited all their customers.

The closure was announced on Facebook and Mr O’Shea said: “This was a community, a family, a common room for outsiders, a place where I’d start my day with a coffee and end it with a new friend.”
