DISTRICT councillors have approved a planning application to build 160 houses west of Eynsham.

West Oxfordshire District Council's planning committee voted in favour of the development on land west of Thornbury Road at a meeting on Monday.

The site features associated works and amenities, including parking.

Eynsham Parish Council does not object to the development in principle but feels it does not reflect the current mix of housing in the village.

The parish council wrote it was 'disappointed by the lack of mix of market and affordable homes which tends to ghettoize the affordable housing within an out of date planning model'.

This comes just one week after parish councillors called plans to build 2,750 homes on land around Eynsham a 'personal attack'.

The housing will be split between a 2,200-home garden village set to be built north of Eynsham and 550 out of 1,000 houses allocated west of the village.
