FINGERS are being firmly crossed for better weather this weekend as organisers make last-minute preparations for the annual Witney carnival.
The event, supported by the Witney Gazette, is on Saturday, at The Leys recreation ground.
It starts with the traditional parade through the town, with the theme of Witney Through the Ages, at 11am.
This year, however, it has been hit by a handful of schools pulling out because of the cost of meeting strict health and safety regulations.
The carnival raises money for local good causes through the organising committee, run by Witney Rotary Club.
A full range of arena events, wide variety of stalls, and children's fairground has been lined up for The Leys.
Motorists are advised that several roads in the town centre will be closed for up to half-an-hour between 11am and 1pm.
The five-day weather forecast for Saturday is light showers.
