A man has been charged with assault after another man was found in the street with multiple head and facial injuries in the early hours yesterday (Saturday, May 5).

The 34-year-old man, who has not been named has remanded in custody until he appears at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday (May 6).

This follows an incident in Hartlepool in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday) where a 32-year-old man was found on York Road by members of the public.

Cleveland Police were alerted to the incident by the North East Ambulance Service. The man had sustained multiple head and facial injuries requiring hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call to an incident on York Road in Hartlepool this morning (4 May) at 00:25am.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and the Medicar. One patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital."
