Starbucks in talks with Marriotts landlord

A CAFE due to go into Witney’s newest shopping complex has still not opened.

Starbucks has revealed that it is in talks with the landlord of Marriotts Walk, in Welch Way.

The popular coffee chain was one of the retailers named early in the plans for the £50m development.

Despite Marriotts Walk opening last month and reporting record sales in its first week, Starbucks has still not opened or been fitted out.

A spokesman for the company said: “We’re currently in discussions with the landlord regarding the unit within the new Marriotts Walk development in Witney. Until these talks are complete, we’re unable to give any further details.”

International firm Starbucks has closed 500 branches in the US.

It is not known what will happen to the unit if Starbucks does not open in Witney, but it could be sub let to another coffee retailer.

Maureen Tilly, 67, of Madley Park, said: “It would be nice to have Starbucks in the town, but we already have Costa Coffee and the M & S cafe.”

This week, Burton announced that it would take over the former Dorothy Perkins shop, which moved to Marriotts Walk in October.

The men’s fashion retailer is currently being fitted out in High Street and is due to open next month.
