£2,810 raised for charity

BOAT racing, a sponsored slim and a football match were just a few of the events housing association staff organised to raise funds for charity.

The staff at Cottsway Housing Association, based in Witney, managed to raise £2,810 through their fundraising efforts in 2009.

David Waters, chief executive of Cottsway, said: “Staff arranged a series of events, including a sponsored slim, charity football match, and sponsored dragon boat racing, to collect money for these good causes. I am very proud of their achievements.”

Two cheques for £1,405 were presented to David Griffiths, from the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, and Helen Robinson, from The Willow Foundation.

Mr Griffiths said: “The air ambulance has been called out 11,600 times during the ten years it has been running, an average of five times a day.

“All money we receive is very much needed and appreciated, so a big thank-you to Cottsway.”

Ms Robinson added: “The Willow Foundation has also been running for ten years and has provided more than 5,500 special days for young adults with life-threatening conditions.

“It is great that staff at Cottsway, which itself is a charity, are raising money to help the community.

“The Willow Foundation already has a link with Cottsway, we were able to provide a special day for the son of a member of Cottsway’s staff.”

Cottsway staff are currently deciding what charity to raise money for during 2010.
