A NEW radio station for Witney will make it's first broadcast from an industrial estate in the town.
Just Oxfordshire, a new radio station serving West Oxfordshire, will run its first pilot broadcasts on July 2, on 87.9FM and the Internet.
"We’ve got lots of surprises up our sleeves."
Andy MacLarty
It will be launched during the Witney Carnival.
The studio is in Station Lane, next to The Leys, where many of the Witney Carnival activities will take place.
The radio station is in the process of applying for a permanent community radio licence.
Spokesman, Andy MacLarty, said: "We intend to use this time to get our presentation team and support staff trained and comfortable in their surroundings.
"As soon as we install the studio hardware, we will schedule a regular season of programmes, to give our audience and supporters an idea of how we will sound.
"We've got lots of surprises up our sleeves, including the final of the local band competition, some amazing guests, and a nutritious diet of features and great music.
"We've got some really keen people in our team, and all of us want to provide our community with the sort of programmes they have asked us for. We get about 30 e-mails a day from people asking us about the station. There's a real buzz in the area about us and we haven't even started broadcasting yet!"
Thanks to an existing arrangement with Just Oxfordshire, Abingdon and Witney College will be encouraging students to make programmes for the station's evening schedule.
