Car park drama

A CARJACKER threatened a woman with a gun after climbing into her car in Witney at about 12.30pm on Sunday, June 23.

The 56-year-old victim was in the Waitrose car park near the Woolgate Centre, when a man opened her passenger door and got in.

Thames Valley Police spokesman, Tim Wiseman, said: "He produced a handgun, which the victim states looked like an imitation, and demanded that she drive forward. The woman refused as there was a hedge in front of her. Instead she reversed and drove around the car park twice, before she opened her window and called for help to a group of passers-by."

Mr Wiseman said the man immediately opened the door and ran from the car, chased by several witnesses.

Det Con Jim Holmes, of Witney CID, said: "It would appear that there was no motivation behind his actions.

"The victim's handbag was on the front seat, and he made no attempt to steal it, and he ran away after the victim called for help."

The man was white, aged 30 to 40, about 5ft 10in, and of medium build.

He had long, straight sandy blond hair, which came to just below his shoulders, and he spoke with a local accent.

Anyone with information can contact DC Holmes, on 08458 505505, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555111.
