Power cuts as wind and rain continue battering Oxfordshire

MORE than 1,100 homes around Watlington are currently without power, after high winds damaged overhead cabling.

Southern Electric engineers are working to correct the fault.

More than 1,400 homes lost their power at around 7am today and 1,100 are still without any electricity.

Company spokesman Greg Clarke said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.

“Engineers are on site at the moment working on the overhead cables and we are optimistic we will have power restored this afternoon.”

The weather is continuing to cause problems elsewhere in the county, with power cuts reported in Chipping Norton and roads blocked due to flooding.

The River Ock has also been put on flood alert between Watchfield and Abingdon, through Stanford in the Vale, Charney Bassett, Lyford and Garford, along with the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.
