WOODEN bowls formed on a foot-powered lathe have proved one of the success of this year’s Oxfordshire Artweeks.

Jamie Carr has been demonstrating his craft at the Garden Studio in Summertown.

The 23-year-old former Cherwell School pupil said: “I turn wooden bowls on the treadle lathe, a traditional foot lathe where all the energy is coming from my left leg.

“It’s very gentle, there’s no loud noises, no protective clothing and I’m not distanced from the wood.

“It’s a very interactive process.”

Jamie can be seen in action at the studio in Oakthorpe Place, between Thorncliffe Road and Oakthorpe Road, until tomorrow.
