Grand Prix trip 'a dream come true' for brave duo

A teenager who battled cancer said a VIP trip to this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix is a dream come true.

Charlie Leach, 17, from Witney, and 11-year-old Jack Godfrey, from Burford, were flown out by private jet on Thursday.

Charlie, pictured second left, was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in 2011.

In September, he told the Oxford Mail the disease had forced him to put his dream of becoming a Formula One engineer on hold.

He battled through daily radiotherapy for five weeks, but is now back at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College in Bicester and hoping to secure a job with a Formula One team.

He said in September: “If anything, this has made me more determined to achieve what I want.”

Yesterday he said: “It is really exciting, like a dream come true.”

Jack, pictured right, has been fighting a brain tumour for more than two years since his diagnosis in March, 2010.

They and two other children have access-all-area passes for the event.

The five-day trip was arranged by Starlight Children’s Foundation, which grants wishes for children with serious and terminal illnesses.
