Prime Minister David Cameron hails torch bearers in Woodstock

PRIME Minister and Witney MP David Cameron paid tribute to cancer campaigner and Olympic Torch bearer Clive Stone.

Mr Cameron said "you earned it" as Mr Stone handed the flame over to another torchbearer in Woodstock.

Mr Stone fought against the National Institute for Clinical Excellence to get cancer drug Sutent available on the NHS.

Today he ran through Woodstock with the Olympic Torch before handing it over in Market Square.

Mr Stone, who won an MBE for services to health, said: "It was great. Very exhilarating."

Mr Cameron, who nominated Mr Stone for the honour, said: "It is a great atmosphere here. It is so nice for West Oxfordshire.

"It is important that a lot of young people are able to get involved."

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Woodstock to welcome the torch.

What a missed golden opportunity for the Prime Minister - visiting Woodstock, instead of Labour-led City Council's jewel-in-the-crown of Blackbird Leys. Maybe Cameron will pop-over when the new Blackbird Leys Notwanted swimming pool complex is eventually built - or wil the latter be part of Henley by then?
