A GROUP of classic car enthusiasts left their homes on Saturday to embark on a 14-day fundraising tour of the UK.
Members of the Wolseley Register Club are raising money to save the home of Oxford philanthropist and car manufacturer William Morris, Lord Nuffield.
They set off from Lord Nuffield’s Oxfordshire home, Nuffield Place, at 10am, on a journey which will take them around England, Wales and Scotland, returning to Nuffield Place on August 18.
The group want to raise money to help maintain and restore the historic residence, which is still decorated and fitted as it was in the 1930s when Lord and Lady Nuffield first moved in.
Jack Peppiatt, pictured right, a 65-year-old builder from Headington, brought along his 1937 Morris Eight.
He said: “I think Lord Nuffield’s home is a really important part of Oxford’s history in the past 100 years.
“All that he did for hospitals was very important. I think the house and the collections should be kept together, so I brought along my cars to show my support.”
