PLANS to save a former RAF control tower in West Oxfordshire by converting it into a home have been turned down.
The former RAF Broadwell control tower in Kencot, near Carterton, co-ordinated some of the D-Day missions in June 1945.
The application would have seen the tower, which English Heritage said was of historic significance, converted into a four-bedroom family home.
Ken Dijksman, planning consultant for the scheme, said he planned to appeal the decision.
He said: “This is typical negative attitude from a local authority.
“You have got somebody who wants to spend £200,000 restoring a Second World War building used in D-Day and Arnhem landings and the committee actually said they would rather it was left to degrade into the landscape.”
West Oxfordshire District Council ’s planning officers said the plan was unsupportable.
