Warnings of flooding
9:30am Monday 24th September 2012 in News
RESIDENTS and businesses across the region are being warned to prepare for possible flooding over the next few days.
The Met Office predicts up to three inches of rain in the South East today and tomorrow.
It means there is a strong possibility of surface water flooding.
Environment Agency teams have already been mobilised across the South East to check on flood defences, clear river blockages and monitor river levels.
The agency had not issued any flood warnings for Oxfordshire’s rivers last night, but asked people to keep an eye on the weather.
Andrew Gilham, a flood and coastal risk manager at the Environment Agency, said: “We ask that people stay safe, by staying away from swollen rivers and not attempting to drive through floodwater.
“We also strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings.”
