CHARITY MATTERS: Couple to run in aid of their god-daughter

Steve and Leanne Jones and god-daughter Sophie Beale
A couple from Southmoor are getting ready to run 10 miles for their nine-year-old god-daughter, who has type one diabetes.
Steve and Leanne Jones, will run in the Great South Run in Southsea on Sunday, October 28, to raise money for the Diabetes UK charity.
Their god-daughter Sophie Beale was diagnosed with diabetes four years ago.
Mrs Jones, 41, a science technician at Faringdon Community College, said: “Sophie controls her diabetes by injecting four times a day which is a lot to take on for such a young girl, but she manages brilliantly.
“She has recently joined her school cross country team and plays netball and tag rugby, so certainly has no intention of letting her condition hold her back.
“We are very proud of her.”
Diabetes destroys or impairs the body’s ability to produce insulin, the hormone which regulates how sugar is processed in the body.
As a results, sufferers have to inject insulin at regular intervals and keep an eye on how much sugar is in their diet.
