Footpath floods despite many complaints
7:00pm Monday 15th October 2012 in News
A WOMAN from Witney has been complaining to council chiefs about flooding along a path near her home for the last 18 years.
Jean Spence, 89, has been regularly speaking to Oxfordshire County Council about a footpath between Moor Avenue and Woodford Way.
It is the main route between her home in Dark Lane and the town centre, but heavy rain makes the path flood and become impassable.
She said: “For many, many years – 18 or more – I have been complaining about the state of the path.
“When it rained heavily last month part of the lane was very deep in water. I have a walking stick and it is the only route into the town apart from a long way around, which is difficult because of my age.”
Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Martin Crabtree said: “A member of staff has walked the entire length but not found any safety defects. “We did carry out some work earlier in the year to try to solve problems with standing water. “Our drainage team has been made aware of more recent concerns regarding water on the path.”
