THE Witney Area Fair Trade Action Group has renewed the town’s Fairtrade status.

The group had to apply to the Fairtrade Foundation in June, a year after Witney became the foundation’s 1,000th Fairtrade Town.

Members attended the town council meeting on Monday last week to present mayor Harry Eaglestone with a certificate confirming the status, above.

The group holds Fairtrade markets and events and plans to stage a fashion show next March.

Spokesman Wendy Maddison said: “It's very pleasing for us that this has happened but it's even better for the people around the world who are being helped by people buying from Fairtrade producers.”
