Sir - I suspect that I am not alone in feeling rather disturbed by the article regarding Mr McGavin's database of allegedly bad drivers (Gazette, April 30, 2008).
We are, it seems, the most watched nation in Europe, with cameras apparent in most urban and some rural locations. Are we to add to these 'official' cameras (most of which have appeared without our knowledge or permission) those using information gleaned from amateur sources?
What will come next?
Children building databases on the behaviour of their parents? Cars in pub car parks having their numbers recorded?
No one condones dangerous driving, but please let's leave the policing of it to those trained and paid to do it.
Amateur involvement is fraught with subjectivity and dubious motives.
Dr G Smaldon, Cuckamus Lane, North Leigh
