They're multi-talented

ACAthletes from Bromley AC participated with varying degrees of success at the Kent Multi-Events Championships held at Erith Stadium.

Lauren Blackie and Katie Murray contested the under-13 girls' minithon. Both had selected the shot for their throwing event but both suffered a bit from being so relatively small.

Lauren threw in excess of four metres and, thanks to throwing coach Theo Mantoura, in good style. Katie threw 5.62m, a Grade 4 throw.

However, after the throws, the girls were at the lower end of the 20-plus taking part.

The next events were running, where Lauren had chosen the 75m and Katie the 800m.

Seeded into the first race containing the fastest sprinters, Lauren ran a good race to finish third overall in 11.1sec, equalling her personal best. Katie ran brilliantly to finish a very strong second in her 800m.

The final discipline was the jumps where Katie had selected high jump, while Lauren opted for her favoured long jump.

Katie finished the high jump in second, although did reach her own personal best. Lauren, on the other hand, performed “out of her skin”, winning the long jump in a new PB of 4.25m. Katie came fourth overall and Lauren sixth.

Later on the same day, the Kent boys under-13 shot championship event was re-staged. It had previously been held earlier in the season but had been declared void after a mix-up by the officials.

On that occasion, Scott Blackwell had been declared the winner before the voiding action.

So, needless to say, he was back attempting to claim his rightful title. But, despite a new PB of 9.65m, more than 70cm longer than his old personal best, he lost by one centimetre!

His reaction, therefore, was very mixed, but as Scott is equally at home sprinting, high or long jumping, this shot-putt performance will surely bolster his multi-event future.

Carl Hewson took part in the under-13 boys' version of the minithon. Despite a lack of experience, he still managed one stylish throw.

His next event was the long jump where he performed close to his personal best around the four-metre mark.

Carl's final event was the 800m where he ran very strongly to record 2mins 34.7sec in third place and eighth overall.

Everyone is invited to take part in Bromley Athletic Club's end-of-season track and field open club championhsips, being held in Norman Park this Friday from 4.30-8pm.
