AS many as 40,000 people are expected to turn out when the torch comes through Oxford today.

That’s according to Oxford City Council’s executive director of community services Tim Stadler.

The figure includes the 20,000 people who have tickets to tonight’s South Park celebration event.

As many again are expected to either line the route as the torch passes through the city or take part themselves.

Other events on today’s Olympic torch route 3pm to 9pm: Bullnose Morris pub, Blackbird Leys. Barbecue, bouncy castle and football shoot out.

4pm to 10pm: The Blackbird Pub, Blackbird Leys. Live music, a DJ, a barbecue and face painting.

3pm to 7pm: Blackbird Leys Adventure Playground. After school club for eight to 13-year-olds until 5pm with Olympic torch games, the barbecue.

5pm to 7pm: City Arms, Cowley Road.Live music and barbecue.

5pm to 6pm: Sol Samba will be performing along Cowley Road from the Magdalen Street junction to The Plain.

5.30pm to 6.30pm: Larkrise Samba Band will be performing in Manzil Gardens, Cowley Road.

5pm to 7pm: Manzil Gardens, Cowley Road. Oxford City Council’s Information Point and Lost Children’s Point while neighbour the Restore Mental Health Charity will extend their cafe opening hours until 7pm.

6pm to 7.15pm: The Plain Roundabout. City of Oxford Choir will perform between 6pm and 6.30pm, and bells will ring at Magdalen College from 6.30pm to 7.15pm.
