STAFF, pupils and parents should all be proud of the work being put in to turn around Wood Green School.

It came as a big shock to the community when the secondary school was told by Ofsted inspectors at the end of last year that it was going from being an outstanding school to being put into special measures.

The decision by inspectors was made after GCSE results at the school continuously fell over a three-year period.

Now, the school has had its second monitoring visit by Ofsted – which takes place to check up on its progress – and has been told it is making a “reasonable” effort to be taken out of special measures.

Parents could well have taken a negative attitude to the school’s rating, but it is clear they are more supportive than ever.

They know it is a good school which supports their children and, like parent Joy Aitman says, she would not send all four of her children there if she did not trust the school.

It is with the help of the parents and effort by the staff that the school will get to the level everyone knows it can be.

The school has plans to be out of special measures by the beginning of next year and it looks like it has the support of the whole community to get itself there.
