Shores Green is only solution

Sir – It appears that Oxfordshire County Council Leader Ian Hudspeth (Witney Gazette, Sept 26) has lost sight of the original reason behind the long-running Cogges Link Road saga.

It is to find an alternative river crossing in order to relieve traffic congestion in Bridge Street.

His list of alternative projects that he now wants to research, interesting though they are, form no part of this basic problem – they are possible (maybe desirable) complementary measures.

Now that the Cogges Link Road project itself has been discredited, the only show in town is to open up the Shores Green junction fully to local traffic, allowing the existing A40 bypass bridge to solve the problem.

All, including the inspector at the recent planning inquiry, agree that this would be an effective solution. There can be no excuse for further delay.

Sour grapes for some, perhaps, but Shores Green will be good news for Witney.
